Zahara has practised law with Tan Rajah & Cheah since 1990, first in its litigation department, and later in its commercial and conveyancing departments.

 

Zahara practises commercial and intellectual property law, and advises on protection and infringement issues, as well as on commercial transactions, including franchises, distribution and licensing agreements and online contracts. In the area of real estate, she practices landlord and tenant law, and handles conveyancing transactions including sales, purchases, financing and securitisation for private as well as institutional clients.

 

Zahara also acts for clients in probate and estate matters. She is a registered professional donee with the Office of Public Guardian and has been appointed as a professional donee / executor under clients’ Lasting Power of Attorneys / Wills to handle their private health care and property related decisions / estates.  

Professional Experience 

Intellectual Property

  • Represents corporate and institutional clients in maintenance of their trademark portfolios.

  • Advised on terms of use, privacy policy and related agreements for online platforms.

  • Represented clients in defending infringement claims by brand owners.

  • Represented brand owners in pursuing claims against infringers.

Corporate & Commercial

  • Acts for an international sports association in reviewing and advising on licensing and sponsorship agreements for the exploitation of its commercial rights relating to its tournaments.

  • Acted for a client involved in a cross-border joint venture for sustainable processing of waste materials in a circular economy, and drafting manufacture and supply agreements.

  • Advised on consultancy and services agreements for the set-up of recycling of waste to energy plant, supply of resultant by-products.

  • Advises on employment issues, including employment contracts and termination, and retainer arrangements under executive search agreements.

  • Represented a tertiary institution in the release of provident fund monies from its staff provident fund on the security of mortgages in favour of the institution.

Real Estate

  • Acts for corporations, statutory boards and REIT in commercial and industrial leases.

  • Acts in sale and purchase transactions of commercial/residential properties, preparation and review of security documents for financing arrangements.

  • Acts for corporations and associations in leases of office and retail spaces, and State leases

  • Acted in the merger of a staff provident fund scheme with the national Central Provident Fund Board.

  • Acted for a statutory board in the preparation of master sale documentation for the sale of land parcels for the development of condominium, bungalows and commercial buildings.
